New Orleans-Cottondale, FL

We have made it to Florida! After driving 5.5 hours today, we made it to Florida. We are staying in middle-of-nowhere, Florida, in the swamp, we are too far north for alligators, but we are going to keep our eyes out later in the month, when we are at the Everglades. When we got to the campground, we played with the fun amenities that they offer, such as badminton, cornhole, and other various games of the sort. After a dinner of grilled cheese, we went on a walk to the only destination within a mile of us, a Loves truck stop. We were looking for a pack of marshmallows to roast over a fire, but did not succeed in that endeavor. The highlight of the walk was when on the way there, we spotted something glowing in the grass. It turned out to be a glow-worm, which I had only ever read about, so it was cool to see one. Tomorrow, we will drive another 5 hours to Hudson, FL, still on the marshy part of the Gulf side.

  1. I actually thought “glow- worms” were a thing of myth. Relieved to learn you are not near gators yet!
